If I’m being completely honest, I haven’t quite recovered from the results of the last presidential election. As an avid news observer, I have since refused to watch the daily news or join in any political discourse regarding the subject matter… It’s hard for me to accept that something like this could happen, but here we are.
In my solitude over the last few weeks, I’ve vowed to and have successfully unplugged from the news coverage and the trappings of everyday commentary about how things are going to play out, whether they be good or bad. I’ve decided to focus on the life that’s happening right in front of my eyes—not on my T.V. screen or my phone, but what is actually happening in my face.
That’s when my perspective changed. My prayer and plan of action was and is to focus on the individual experiences with those I encounter as opposed to feeling destitute & disengaged by discourse beyond my control. Per Webster, “acceptance allows or affords us a chance to consent to receive or undertake something offered.” No matter what is offered to us, we as believers have an open invitation to gain a new perspective when we exemplify God’s love in response. 1 Corinthians 16:14 instructs us to “do EVERYTHING in love.” Love is the response. The question, situation, or circumstance doesn’t matter.
